Lebanon: Learning History

Like all countries, Lebanon is more complex then we imagine. As important article. "·The influence  of Shia clergymen" in The Economist (4/23/05) adds a significant item to our Learning History project. Shia clergyman have established schools in Lebanon, including the Najaf College for Islamic Studies. In Arab countries Saladin is usually depicted as a great hero who recovered  Jerusalem from the Christians.  However,  the Shia line is that he and his comrades were Sunni butchers who overthrew the Arab world's last Shia state.  Can Ed Jajko or some other Middle East specialist expand on this?
