Christopher Jones has sent me a long article in French by Tariq Ramadan- There is a heated discussion going on in the US about Israel and the Arab Middle East, but we should realize that similar discussions are being held in European countries, although we seldom hear of them- The article concerns the new antisemitism in France. It was rejected five times by Le Monde, proof that feelings run high in France. The names of the Jewish intellectuals involved are scarcely known in the US: Bernard Kouchner, André Glucksman, Bernard-Henri Lévy. They are generally liberal, but they support the American-Israeli position on the Middle East. Tariq Ramadan is the author of Le sionisme expliqué à nos potes and Les Musulmans d'Occident et l'avenir de l'islam.
