Democratic Caudillo

Hank Levin writes: It would be helpful to find out what Christo0pher Jones means when he refers to Pinochet’s leadership to make democracy work.  Perhaps there is a theory of the democratic caudillo.  I am sure that Orwell would have something to say about this juxtaposition.

RH: If by democracy you mean support of the people, caudillos often have it at first and then lose it. A case in point is Rosas of Argentina.  We would appreciate an opinion from an Argentinian on how this applies to Peerón.
