Greece: Olympic Games & Politics


Istvan Simon writes: I join Mr. Kofas in the praise for the wonderful accomplishments of the Greek government and Greek Olympic Organizing Committee in the staging of these games.

I was deeply moved by the initial presentation, in the Opening Ceremony, that reminded the World of what Greece has given to Humanity. It was done with great artistry and taste,  it was beautiful, and it was truly moving. The ending ceremony, with the passing of the Olympic flag to the mayor of Beijing was equally wonderful. Perhaps the only thing missing was the playing of Beethoven's Ode to Joy, surely the most appropriate for the spirit represented by  the Olympic Games: "Alle Menschen werden bruder..."
