Slavery: Jews, Slaves, and the Slave Trade
Christopher Jones writes: A book has been published about the subject of Jews in the slave trade which appears quite reasonable. Jews, Slaves and the Slave Trade by Eli Faber looks at the slave business as it grew in Britain and the establishment of Jewish communities in the colonies. Of course, the book may be whitewash -- I don't know. However, because everyone was involved in the slave trade, I can easily imagine that Amsterdam Jews were involved -- a little like the Jews who got involved in the movies -- they were in it for the money.

Mihai Nadin writes: Christopher Jones writes in regard to Eli Faber's book Jews, Slaves and the Slave Trade: "Of course, the book may be whitewash -- I don't know". What does it mean? Did he read the book (published 1998) or not? That is all that counts. And required from someone who suggests a value judgment. He further writes: "However, because everyone was involved in the slave trade, I can easily imagine that Amsterdam Jews were involved -- a little like the Jews who got involved in the movies -- they were in it for the money". What does this mean? He knows that the Jews got involved in the movies because: they were in it for the money. Let me abstain from what the correspondent practices. Associations out of context are very good comedy material and define attitudes not everyone will accept. My barber, who is Jewish, is also in for the money.
RH: WAISers represent a wide variety of viewpoints, and we do not censor them unless they insult individuals or use unWAIS language. They expose themselves to replies, as in this case. "Money makes the world go round" indicates that the love of it is a universal characteristic, and an ancient one. Remember Croesus and "auri sacra fames".
Adriana Pena puts it well: Of course the Jews involved into slavery were into it for the money. The same reason why gentiles were involved. Does anyone believe that anyone got involved in the slave trade for altruistic reasons?????
