China: Mao and Documentaries

Bill Ratliff writes:Amen to Istvan Simon's comments on Mao. There is a second film called "The Last Emperor,'" a fine documentary made by BBC about a decade ago. It has footage of Mao and some of his victims (among them Liu Shaochi , No. 2 in the communist party until Mao threw him in prison during the Cultural Revolution, where he died), comments by his former doctor Li, interviews with former British diplomats and survivors of Mao's atrocities. I show it in all my Chinese history classes.
